About
Welcome! I’m an entrepreneur and investor, focused on the sports industry. I’m currently Managing Director of the Techstars Sports Accelerator, which we launched in 2019. At Techstars Sports we invest $120,000/company in 10 startups annually, and provide mentorship, office space and hands-on support, accelerating portfolio companies from Seed to Series A.
Before Techstars Sports, my great friend Jeremy Levine and I were co-CEO’s of Draft.com an innovative, venture-backed startup in the daily fantasy sports industry. We sold DRAFT in May, 2017 for $48M to Paddy Power Betfair, the publicly traded leader in online gaming.
Before DRAFT, I was Founder and CEO (now Chairman) of CoachUp.com, the nation’s leading sports coaching company. We raised $15M in venture-capital and built the category leading brand in the industry. One of the most fun experiences I had at CoachUp was partnering with now 2X NBA MVP Stephen Curry as our lead spokesman. CoachUp would not have been possible without my incredibly talented co-founders and close buddies Arian Radmand and Gabe Durazo, who built the platform from the ground up.
Entrepreneurship is an incredible force for good in our society, and I spend my free time supporting other founders. I’m an early-stage investor and/or advisor in 50+ startups. I speak on topics related to entrepreneurship, investing, coaching, and leadership, and sometimes write on these subjects, including a book (Wiley & Sons, 2016).
One of the great honors of my life was helping launch, and serving as Chairman, of Athletes of Valor (AoV), a venture-backed social-impact for-profit that helps veterans transition from service to career by leveraging the power of sports. AoV is led by my good friend, and retired Marine, Alex Stone, who is a force of nature and his passion for helping other veterans is contagious.
In 2018 I fulfilled my childhood dream of owning a pro sports team, and lead a group that bought a double-digit minority stake in the 4X Australian NBL Champion New Zealand Breakers.
Along with my teams, Im honored to have been named things like Inc. “30 under 30” in America list (2015), Forbes “30 under 30” in America (2015), Boston Business Journal “40 under 40” list in 2014, and Finalist for “New England Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young in 2015. I’m even more proud of our team awards: CoachUp made Inc 5000 in 2018 (#1572), and DRAFT won basically every award for our industry in 2017: The Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) “Company of the Year, Best Fantasy Sports Game, Best Games App, and Best Draft Room.”
Hope this wasn’t too much context, but I’ll conclude my saying that I’m passionate about building great companies with friends, and hope both to be more dedicated in writing down what I’m learning along the way, and that you will find value in these posts!
